Confident Helm provides fuel for streaking Red Wings
Detroit Red Wings forward Darren Helm isn't known for his offense, but Thursday's impressive performance could give him the confidence he needs to know that he can contribute at that end of the ice.
After scoring just once in his previous 24 contests, Helm tallied twice in Detroit's 3-2 victory over the Montreal Canadiens to extend the team's point streak to 12 games (8-0-4). The 28-year-old Manitoba native, who scored midway into the second period and again with 6:01 remaining in the third, told MLive that Thursday's breakout may lead to bigger and better things.
Helm collected a career-high 15 goals in 75 games with the Red Wings last season. A fifth-round pick of the 2005 draft, Helm has recorded 62 tallies and 81 assists in 391 career contests - all with Detroit.
"I think it's a confidence thing for me. Chances are going to happen. I don't think I got down before but definitely now I know that it's going to go in. I just got to keep taking my cracks at it, get shots on net and the puck will find its way in."
