NHRA: 50th anniversary Funny Car celebration kicks off at Pomona

2016 marks the 50th anniversary of Funny Car competition in the NHRA, and celebrations will begin as early as the season opener at Pomona.

The 2016 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series begins at the Circle K NHRA Winternationals at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona from Feb. 11-14. Fans will be treated to a display of various Funny Cars through the years at the Hot Rod Junction, including:

Additionally, several other Funny Cars from past years will perform exhibition runs down the dragstrip, including:

While burnout demonstrations will be performed by Ron Huegli in the Tiki Warrior, and by Greg Howland in the Zeus nostalgia Funny Car.

Fans will also be treated to Q&A and autograph sessions with several Funny Car drivers, with the first 500 fans at the Q&A being awarded a special NHRA Funny Car 50th anniversary commemorative autograph card. Among the drivers featured at the Q&A will be:
