LeBron James producing new Muhammad Ali documentary for HBO
Cleveland Cavaliers superstar LeBron James has signed onto serve as executive producer for a new multi-part documentary series on the life and career of boxing great Muhammad Ali.
The untitled documentary will air on HBO with Antoine Fuqua — best known for his work on "Training Day" and "Southpaw" — to direct the series.
James and partner Maverick Carter will produce the new series as part of their SpringHill Entertainment company.
“It’s tough to put into words how much it means to me to be a part of this project honoring the legacy and telling the extremely important story of the great Muhammad Ali,” James said in a press release. “He transcended sports and used his platform to empower people, which paved the way for all athletes and people of every race and gender that came after him, myself included.
"It’s important that his story continues for generations to come, and it’s an honor for SpringHill Entertainment and me to be a part of this.”
The documentary will delve into Ali's "greatest triumphs and comebacks, painting an intimate portrait of a man who, against all odds, dreamed and achieved the impossible, over and over again" according to the press release about the new series.
The film is being produced with the full permission and participation of Ali's family estate after the boxer passed away earlier this year at age 74.
The documentary will also feature never before seen footage and photos of Ali as well as cinematic recreations that will the legendary boxer through his entire career.
As of yet, there's no release date for the documentary.
