The Kansas City Royals continued a busy day of roster moves Sunday by making several between games of a doubleheader and another one afterward.

The club placed Alex Gordon on the paternity list after the first game. The left fielder's wife is expected to give birth Monday.

Gordon was replaced on the roster by infielder Raúl Mondesi, who was promoted from Omaha. Mondesi was returned to the club's Triple-A affiliate after the second game.

Mondesi, 21, opened the year as the club’s starting second baseman and has hit .324 (24-for-74) with six doubles, a triple, three homers and 11 runs scored in 19 games since being optioned to Omaha on April 21. He started the second game of the doubleheader at second base and went 0-for-3.

Right-hander Miguel Almonte was recalled from Northwest Arkansas (AA) and served as the 26th man in Sunday’s doubleheader. He did not pitch Sunday.  Almonte, 24, is 1-0 with a 1.86 ERA and 35 strikeouts in 29.0 innings with the Naturals.

Also between games, the Royals sent starter Jake Junis back to Omaha. Junis had been recalled Sunday morning to start the first game of the doubleheader, when he went 4 2/3 innings, allowing the Twins two runs on five hits. He was optioned after the game to make room for Ian Kennedy, who was activated from the 10-day disabled list. Kennedy started the second game and took the loss after allowing five runs in two innings.

The club also designated reliever Al Alburquerque for assignment before the first game.
