The Miami Marlins got some bad news on Sunday, revealing that outfielder Giancarlo Stanton was done for the season after a groin injury Saturday night.

And as the search for a bat to fill the hole in the lineup begins, Alex Rodriguez's name came up.

Miami Marlins president Michael Hill didn't rule out adding he former New York Yankees slugger, saying the team would look at all available options in the midst of a playoff race.

"We're putting our list together of options. [Rodriguez] is available, so he will be on that list. We'll see where that goes," Hill said on Sunday.

Rodriguez was released by the Yankees on Friday and is expected to clear waivers on Monday. He's expected to begin a personal services contract with the Yankees next season.

From MLB.com:

"I have no idea what his interest level is to continue playing," Hill said. "He has something set up to move into the [Yankees'] front office. I don't know where his head is on that, but where we are now, this team has played too well for too long. We're right in the thick of this thing, and we're going to do everything in our power to help in any way we can. If it's him, or if it's someone else, we're going to try to find a way."

Rodriguez, a Miami native, sits four home runs shy of 700 for his career.

One question would be where to play Rodriguez, since the Marlins can't stash him in the DH spot. First base figures to be the best option, as the Marlins also have Justin Bour on the DL.
