Vote now: Who should be a nominee for the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2018?
The NASCAR Hall of Fame will announce the 20 nominees for the 2018 Class tonight at 5:30 p.m. ET.
Before they make the announcement of who the nominees will be, we want to hear from you about which of these six individuals who have made great impacts to NASCAR most deserves to be among the nominees.
Check out a little history on each individual before casting your vote below.
Joe Gibbs
In 25 seasons, JGR has won 140 Cup Series race and four championships with three drivers – Bobby Labonte, Tony Stewart, and Kyle Busch. JGR also has the best XFINITY Series program in NASCAR. With fellow owners Richard Childress and Rick Hendrick already in the Hall and Jack Roush a nominee, Gibbs belongs to be with them.
H.A. “Humpy” Wheeler
It’s an easy case to say that the long-time Charlotte Motor Speedway president was the greatest promoter in NASCAR history. Wheeler pioneered track lighting, elaborate pre-race shows, turning the all-star race into a spectacle, and changing the fan experience at the track.
Davey Allison
Allison’s career was cut tragically short but in his time, he won 19 races in 191 career starts. He finished third in points in 1991 and 1992 and narrowly missed out on winning a championship.
Buddy Parrott
As a crew chief, Parrott was atop the pit box for 49 wins. He was the crew chief for Richard Petty’s 200th and final race win and Derrike Cope’s 1990 Daytona 500 win. He also served as the crew chief for NASCAR Hall of Fame drivers Darrell Waltrip and Rusty Wallace.
Smokey Yunick
There’s a realistic chance that this one might never happen because of Yunick’s legendary feuds with the France family, but if he can get over that uphill battle, he deserves to be in the NASCAR Hall of Fame. He was one of the brightest personalities of his time and an absolute rebel.
Jim Paschal
Paschal won 25 races and 20 poles during his NASCAR Cup Series career. He finished in the top 10 230 times in 421 races. He won some of the biggest events in NASCAR, including two World 600s at Charlotte Motor Speedway, including setting the 1967 race by leading a record 335 laps, which stood until Martin Truex Jr. led 392 laps last season.
