Michael Jordan has a surprising pick for who he wants to star in 'Space Jam 2'
Though Space Jam 2 has yet to be confirmed, there has been a seemingly endless stream of rumors surrounding a potential sequel for years now. The most common involves Michael Jordan passing the torch to LeBron James as the film's main star.
But Jordan recently spoke to a young crowd at what appears to be a youth basketball camp, where he was asked who he would pick to star in the Space Jam sequel ... if it ever comes to fruition. (Eh, who are we kidding? Literally everything is getting a sequel these days.)
The guy Jordan picked may surprise you. No, it wasn't LeBron. Nope, it not Steph Curry, either. Heck, Jordan, a relentless competitor, didn't even choose himself or anyone from his Charlotte Hornets.
Instead, he selected Blake Griffin.
While that may not be the first name that one would envision given that Griffin is not currently at the peak of popularity or performance, it's not a bad choice. Sure, he missed a significant chunk of last season after injuring his hand while punching a Clippers trainer in the face. And yes, he's at the center of some trade speculation at the moment.
But as we've seen plenty of times throughout his career, Griffin is a bona fide entertainer both on and off the basketball court. In addition to being a great basketball player, he's more than marketable off the court. His promotional work has shown that he's comfortable in front of a camera, possesses a great sense of humor and excellent delivery.
And though it's true that LeBron also has these qualities, there is one thing that Griffin has that James does not -- a direct Jordan Brand sponsorship.
Although I'm sure that had nothing at all to do with Jordan's choice. No, never.
