5 things to know about Jacoby Brissett, the newest new Patriots quarterback

Published Nov. 15, 2016 2:14 p.m. ET

1. Brissett played for two years at Florida, and was second on the depth chart his sophomore season, then transferred to N.C. State and helped take what had been a mediocre team to two bowls, playing stellar games in the biggest situations (like when he went 32-for-48 for 359 yards and three touchdowns in a close loss to reigning national champ Florida State).

2. He was taken in the third round of the 2016 draft with the 91st pick. Dak Prescott went No. 135 while the QB who once kept Brissett from a starting job -- Jeff Driskel of Louisiana Tech by way of Florida -- went No. 207. Brissett replaced Driskel during the 2012 season after Driskel went out with an injury. He mopped up a victory that week and won a start the next before Driskel returned.

3. At N.C. State (and in his brief playing time at UF), Brissett was known for a judicious passing style (he had 46 TD passes and just 12 interceptions) and his elusiveness.

4. Brissett, 23, doesn't seem to be a big fan of social media. Since he was drafted in April, Brissett hasn't tweeted once (he's randomly retweeted three things), and his featured image is still of an N.C. State huddle. When he has tweeted in the past (and we're going back to his early college days), it hasn't been particularly scintillating:

Though he has shown an acumen for football knowledge:

5. He dabbles in the stock market and has gone through every season of The Office at least six times on Netflix.
