Cardinals give contract extensions to both Carson Palmer and Larry Fitzgerald
The Arizona Cardinals secured additional years on two of their biggest veteran offensive stars when they handed contract extensions to both Carson Palmer and Larry Fitzgerald on Friday.
Palmer, the team's 36-year-old starting quarterback, got a one-year extension worth around $24.35 million. That means he'll be under contract through the 2018 season with the next two years fully guaranteed.
The 32-year-old Fitzgerald, one of Palmer's favorite targets at wideout, also received a one-year extension of his own. The terms of Fitzgerald's deal weren't disclosed, but he'll be under contract through 2017.
Though they're aging stars, the Cardinals clearly wanted to show loyalty to a couple of guys who have been integral members of the organization in recent years.
Both Palmer and Fitzgerald are coming off fantastic 2015 campaigns. Palmer threw for 4,671 yards and 35 touchdowns while only accounting for 11 interceptions. He finished the season with a 104.6 QB rating. Fitzgerald caught 109 passes for 1,215 yards and nine touchdowns.
