Bears DL David Carter is a 300-pound Vegan
Chicago Bears defensive tackle Chris Carter is 6-foot-5 and weighs in at a hefty 300 pounds. Don't let his eye-popping measurements fool you, though. Carter isn't shoveling junk food down his throat to maintain that massive size.
In fact, he's a vegan.
Carter, 27, opened up to Luke Darby of GQ about his diet this week. His decision to go vegan stemmed from chronic tendinitis and near-constant pain.
"I realized I was making everything worse," Carter told GQ. "I was feeding the tendonitis, the muscle fatigue, everything. So the next day I went vegan. The first thing I ate was a bean burger and haven’t eaten meat since."
Carter eats breakfast (Oatmeal with hemp protein, bananas and berries), two lunches (Brown rice and black beans with avocado and cashew cheese) and dinner (Couscous with onion and garlic, and spinach salad with bell peppers) every day, according to GQ. In between each meal, he has a 20-ounce smoothie (cannellini beans, banana, strawberries, and spirulina), totaling 10,000 calories a day.
"People ask me if I want to get a steak and I tell them I actually don’t eat that, or any meat or dairy," Carter said, via GQ. "They’re usually thinking, ‘Wait, you’re supposed to be small and weak.’ But of course they can’t say that when they’re looking at me."
By making a radical change to his diet, Carter has redefined his body and kept his NFL career alive.
