Jeremy Langford shows potential in first NFL preseason

Published Sep. 4, 2015 10:42 a.m. ET

The Chicago Bears have one of the NFL's finest running backs in Matt Forte, but he can't keep carrying the ball forever. He will turn 30 years old this December, and he is coming off back-to-back seasons with over 360 total touches.

If the tread on Forte's tires wears too thin in the near future, the Bears can rest easy knowing they have a young, up-and-coming running back in Jeremy Langford ready to take on the load. Langford, a fourth-round rookie out of Michigan State, carried the ball 28 times for 153 yards this preseason (5.5 yards/carry).

Langford made one last splash in the Bears' preseason finale on Thursday night, as he ripped off a long run of 34 yards on a touchdown drive. During the regular season, he'll search for snaps behind both Forte and former Atlanta Falcons running back Jacquizz Rodgers, who's likely to make an impact on third downs this season.
