Matt Barkley takes cue from Tom Brady, decides to wear wet suit under uniform
Sunday has a chance to be the coldest Chicago Bears game ever with temperatures hovering around 5 degrees and wind chill creating sub-zero conditions. Staying warm will obviously be a huge challenge for everyone at Soldier Field, and extreme measures are being taken by Bears quarterback Matt Barkley.
Barkley is going as far as wearing a wet suit under his uniform to combat the elements, according to NFL.com.
So where exactly did he get this idea from? None other than Tom Brady, himself. Apparently Matt Cassel learned of the trick from Brady, who then relayed it Barkley.
What the wet suit does is keep a player’s – or in most cases, a triathlete or surfer’s – core warm. That helps to keep the rest of the body warm, which is key.
The best part of the suit is that it doesn’t restrict a quarterbacks’ throwing motion. It actually “promotes flexibility throwing the football,” as NFL Network’s Stacey Dales noted on “NFL GameDay Morning.”
