Chicago Bears WR Marquess Wilson could be on roster bubble

The Chicago Bears took a shot on former Washington State wide receiver Marquess Wilson in the seventh round of the 2013 NFL draft, but it's starting to look like that pick won't pan out.

ESPN's Jeff Dickerson broke down the Bears' depth at wide receiver heading into the 2015 season, and he believes Wilson needs to have a strong summer in order to avoid being cut.

"Third-year wideout Marquess Wilson was supposed to have a breakout season last season, but a training camp injury derailed his sophomore campaign," Dickerson wrote. "Wilson was a Phil Emery late draft pick (seventh-round), so the new regime has no ties to the 6-foot-4 receiver. Wilson needs a strong preseason to ensure he’s on the 53-man roster. Maybe Wilson thrives in Bourbonnais because public expectations have been lowered."

The training camp injury Dickerson mentioned was a fractured clavicle, which landed Wilson on short-term injured reserve to start the 2014 season. Wilson was able to return for the final seven games of the season, recording 17 catches for 140 yards and a touchdown.

At Washington State, Wilson eclipsed 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first two seasons before leaving for the draft a year early. His NFL career hasn't been as explosive from the outset.
