Kyle Shanahan out as Browns offensive coordinator

Johnny Football will have some new offensive coaches in 2015.

Multiple sources told FOX Sports that offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan and quarterbacks coach Dowell Loggains will not return to head coach Mike Pettine’s staff.

A source told FOX Sports that Shanahan asked for and was granted his release. Loggains was fired largely because of Pettine’s unhappiness with the development of rookie quarterback Johnny Manziel, a source told FOX Sports.

After failing to win the first-string job during the preseason, Manziel was finally given his chance to start in December after veteran journeyman Brian Hoyer faltered down the stretch. Manziel, though, was even worse than Hoyer.

Manziel completed 13 of 26 passes for 112 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions in six quarters of action before injuring his hamstring and landing on injured reserve. The Browns lost both those games to Cincinnati (30-0) and Carolina (17-13) en route to a 7-9 record in Pettine’s first season as head coach.

Pettine already is well underway with his search to replace Shanahan and Loggains, multiple sources told FOX Sports.

Multiple media reports say Shanahan is interviewing Thursday morning with the Buffalo Bills for their head coaching vacancy. Shanahan joined the Browns with Pettine in 2014 after four years as Washington’s offensive coordinator (2010-2013) and two with Houston (2008-09).

The Browns ranked 23rd in total offense this season.
