Colin Kaepernick vows to donate all jersey sale proceeds to the community
Colin Kaepernick has been at the forefront of NFL and political discussions for the past few weeks after he sat during the National Anthem prior to the 49ers’ third preseason game. Kaepernick’s actions and comments stirred up debates across the country and even led his teammate, Eric Reid, and Seahawks cornerback Jeremy Lane to support his stance.
In the past week, he’s received overwhelming support from stars such as hip-hop artists J. Cole and Trey Songz, as well as Milwaukee Bucks forward Jabari Parker – all of whom wore Kaepernick jerseys to stand with the quarterback.
On Wednesday, Kaepernick thanked those who have stood by him and made his jersey the top-selling jersey in the NFL. He also said he’ll donate all of the proceeds he receives from the sale of his jerseys back to the community.
Per the terms of the collective bargaining agreement, Kaepernick won’t receive more money than any other player despite his skyrocketing jersey sales, given that it’s pooled among the 32 teams. Still, he vows to donate however much he receives to those in the community.
After his decision to sit during the National Anthem was met with disdain and outrage, Kaepernick has showed he’s not going to go away quietly on this issue. Furthermore, he’s turned this situation into one that has enlightened many and made it something that can help those in the community.
