Colts' Moncrief hopes to showcase big-play ability in 2015

On a team loaded with offensive talent, Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Donte Moncrief has a simple goal for 2015: Get on the field any way possible.

As part of a wide receiver corps featuring Andre Johnson, T.Y. Hilton and 2015 first-rounder Phillip Dorsett, among others, Moncrief said he brings his own unique skillset that he hopes will help him stand out this season.

“Being able to catch the ball and explode, and not let one guy tackle you,” Moncrief said, via the team's official website. "My goal is just to get on the field and make plays for our team---special teams, offense, it (doesn’t) matter. I want to make those plays for (Andrew) Luck, all those small plays that I made mistakes on. Now that I know what to do, it should be much easier and I should make those plays.”

The former third-round pick out of Ole Miss caught 32 passes for 444 yards and three touchdowns as a rookie. His head coach, Chuck Pagano, said he's anxious to see how Moncrief progresses in his second season.

"He’s going to have more opportunities going forward," Pagano said at the league meetings in March. "He’s got such a high ceiling and room for improvement. The sky’s the limit for him.”

Moncrief said he's looking forward to the problems he and his fellow receivers will cause for opposing defenses, including the potential of lining up alongside Hilton and Dorsett.

“That’s a lot of speed on the field,” Moncrief said. "(Defenses) are going to have to back up, no pressing and you better back those safeties up because we are going.”
