Tony Romo 'expects to be back sooner rather than later'
The Dallas Cowboys still can't find a way to win without Tony Romo, falling to the Giants on Sunday in a 20-19 nail-biter. But despite the Week 1 setback, it appears Romo's rehab is progressing quite well.
"Everything is fine, not fine, but is on go," Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Sunday, via the Star-Telegram. "[The X-rays showed] nothing that would in any way get in the area of a setback or would show concern."
Romo suffered a compression fracture in his back last month during a preseason game. Though the injury sounds serious, the Cowboys opted not to place the veteran QB on the short-term injured-reserve list, which would have forced Romo to sit the first six weeks of the season.
Dallas initially hoped Romo could be back on the field for its Oct. 30 game against the Eagles, but that return date could be earlier than expected. Dallas, which was 1-11 without him last season, hasn't ruled out Romo making his 2016 debut Oct. 16 against the Green Bay Packers.
"Romo is upbeat," Jones said. "He is just doing what he needs to be doing. He still has his support and will continue to have that support. It's about not getting overzealous sitting down.
"He expects to be back sooner rather than later."
