D.J. Swearinger: Being in Tampa Bay is the 'fresh start that I needed'

Published Jun. 12, 2015 12:11 a.m. ET

D.J. Swearinger is not only leaving what happened in Houston in the past, but he's completely focused on trying to make an impact with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. According to Pat Yasinskas of ESPN, Swearinger simply said he's excited for the fresh start with his new team.

“It most definitely is a fresh start,’’ Swearinger told ESPN. “It’s a fresh start that I needed. It’s a fresh start that I’m happy with. I’m just looking forward to getting better every day.’’

While Swearinger had a tough go of it with the Texans, he has the right mindset as the 2015 offseason rolls on with his new team. Instead of dwelling on issues that led to him no longer being in Houston, he's ready to do whatever is asked of him in Tampa, even if it includes playing special teams, something that was rumored to be an issue for him.

"There were reports that he made noise about not wanting to play special teams in Houston and that’s why he was released by the Texans." Yasinskas explained.

“That’s totally not true,’’ Swearinger responded. “I played special teams there and I’ll be playing special teams here, for the record. That’s totally not what happened and I’m just ready to be a Tampa Bay Buccaneer.’’
