John Elway says he hasn't talked to Jerry Jones about Tony Romo at owners meetings
Some of the most important names in the NFL are in Phoenix this week for the league’s annual owners meetings. Among them are Jerry Jones and Broncos GM John Elway, who have been there since Tuesday.
Why are those two names notable? Well, because the Cowboys have a certain quarterback on the trade block, and the Broncos have a need at the position he plays. Only, Jones and Elway didn’t talk about Tony Romo once since they’ve been in Arizona.
At least, that’s what Elway said on Sunday.
“We’ve been here all week and his name never came up,’’ Elway said, via 9News.
The Broncos are believed to have some interest in Romo if and when he’s released by the Cowboys, but they’ll likely be in a bidding war with the Texans, who have an even greater need at quarterback.
It seems unlikely either team will give up a valuable pick to land Romo, knowing the Cowboys can’t exactly afford to keep him on the roster. Instead, they’ll both probably wait it out a bit, force Jones’ hand and try to outbid each other when he hits the open market.
Romo’s next landing spot will have a substantial impact on the rest of the league, knowing he can turn a decent team into one that will contend for a Super Bowl.
