Cris Carter: Why Tony Romo to the Texans could threaten the Patriots
On the same day Tony Romo said goodbye to Dallas Cowboys fans, the Houston Texans cleared space by trading quarterback Brock Osweiler to the Cleveland Browns.
The Texans are among the most likely teams to land Romo, and if they get the four-time Pro Bowl QB, they could threaten the defending champion New England Patriots.
Houston lost 34-16 at New England in the playoffs back in January, but was saddled with a struggling QB in Osweiler and missing three-time Defensive Player of the Year J.J. Watt. With a healthy, top-ranked defense and a healthy Romo throwing to the Texans' talented receivers, plus a 1,000-yard running back in Lamar Miller, Houston has a chance to change the balance of power in the AFC.
Cris Carter thinks the Texans make the most sense for Romo because of their defense.
"The thing that I like most about Tony Romo going to the Houston Texans is: Every game we don't have to win a shootout," Carter said on "Speak For Yourself" on Thursday. "We can win 14-3. You know you have a beast of a defense. Some of these teams that might be vying for Tony Romo, and with his health, you get into shootouts like he had to do a lot in Dallas, makes you have to drop back 40 times a game, you're more likely to get hurt. But they can run the ball, grind it out in Houston and win football games."
