Ex-Lions OL Rodney Austin suspended six games by NFL

Former Detroit Lions guard Rodney Austin has been suspended by the NFL for the first six games of the 2015 season, ESPN's Field Yates reports.

In June, Austin was found guilty of four misdemeanor charges, including two for assault, after a domestic violence incident in April, according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. He was charged with "assault on a female, assault on a child under age 12, interference with an emergency communication and larceny," per the report.

A few days later, Austin was sentenced to 12 months of supervised probation and was ordered to complete a "certified intervention program for batterers," according to ESPN's Michael Rothstein.

Austin, 26, entered the league as an undrafted free agent out of Elon in 2012. He spent three seasons with the Lions but appeared in just one game. The offensive lineman was cut from the team following his April arrest; he is currently a free agent.
