Jacksonville's David Caldwell 27th in annual GM rankings

The Sporting News released its annual NFL general manager rankings earlier this week, and despite some major spending during free agency and the addition of what the team hopes is another solid draft class, it wasn't enough to keep Jacksonville's David Caldwell from near the bottom of the list.

Caldwell, in his third season as Jacksonville's GM, was ranked 27th, ahead of only rookie GM Mike Maccagnan of the Jets, Cleveland's Ray Farmer, Tennessee's Ruston Webster, Jason Licht of Tampa Bay and Oakland's Reggie McKenzie.

In his assessment, David Steele of the Sporting News didn't have anything particularly negative to say about the job Caldwell has done thus far in Jacksonville, including the offseason additions of tight end Julius Thomas, defensive lineman Jared Odrick and offensive tackle, Jermey Parnell, among others.

But, the Jaguars did finish 3-13 last season and have won only seven games in the two seasons Caldwell has been in charge.

Last season, Caldwell ranked 17th on the list.

No matter how improved the roster is, if Caldwell wants to move back up next year, it appears the team needs to start winning games.
