Jaguars' secondary limping into Colts game

Published Sep. 30, 2015 12:01 a.m. ET

The Jacksonville Jaguars face a big test on Sunday in the form of Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts offense and they may have to do it severely shorthanded in the secondary.

Three of the Jacksonville's defensive backs were hurt in last Sunday's 51-17 loss to New England and, as ESPN's Mike DiRocco points out the team may be without as many as five members of the secondary this week against the Colts.

Safety Josh Evans sprained his MCL against the Patriots and is considered day-to-day. Fellow safety Sergio Brown suffered a calf strain, while cornerback Davon House sprained his lower leg, leaving their status for this week up in the air as well.

The trio join safety Johnathan Cyrprien and Dwayne Gratz among the injured Jacksonville defensive backs. Cyprien has a calf injury, though the team hopes to have him back at practice on Wednesday. Gratz is dealing with an ankle injury.

While some of the injured players may end up playing, the possibility exists that the Jaguars could face the high-powered Colts offense without their top three safeties and two of their top three corners.

If that happens, it could be another long afternoon for the Jacksonville defense.
