The Chiefs officially have a new backup for Jamaal Charles

There's a new change-of-pace ballcarrier behind Jamaal Charles in K.C.

It's no longer longtime reserve Knile Davis, either.

Charcandrick West, a former undrafted rookie out of Abilene Christian, has gotten the bulk of Davis' backup snaps. On Sunday against the Bengals, West had five carries for 17 yards.

That major work behind a carry hog like Charles -- and it's work that isn't going to Davis.

“In those situations, we chose to go with Charcandrick," head coach Andy Reid told Terez A. Paylor of the Kansas City Star. "You saw some of the things we were doing with him, and we think Charcandrick does a pretty good job with those things.”

Reid claims he hasn't lost confidence in Davis. But Davis' last carry was that late touchdown on Thursday Night Football against the Broncos; he hasn't logged a carry since.

West has tallied 26 snaps in the meantime. It's not tough to see the team views him as more than just a matchup-based option.
