Chiefs safety Husain Abdullah retires, citing concussion concerns

Kansas City Chiefs safety Husain Abdullah announced his retirement Monday on Instagram, citing suffering the fifth concussion of his seven-year NFL career as a contributing factor in his decision.

Abdullah, 30, missed the final five games of the 2015 season. He signed with the Chiefs in 2013 after taking 2012 off to complete The Hajj, a pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca.

His brother Hamza -- a seven-year NFL veteran at the time -- did the same, but he never played another game. Husain Abdullah not only returned but started 21 games for the Chiefs in his three seasons in Kansas City.

Abdullah was an undrafted free agent in 2008 and spent his first four years with the Vikings.
