Marcus Mariota: No social media for me
The Tennessee Titans' selection of quarterback Marcus Mariota from the University of Oregon has sparked plenty of interest in the Heisman Trophy winner in Nashville and beyond.
Mariota, who was taken with the second overall pick in April's NFL draft, had the league's best-selling jersey for the month of May.
But while Mariota's popularity may be on the rise, fans hoping to learn all they can about the day-to-day life of the 21-year-old may be disappointed. Mariota told the Cleveland Plain Dealer he has no interest in social media. No Twitter. No Instagram. Nothing.
"I don't participate in social media," Mariota said. "I think social media provides an opportunity for people to get insight into what you're doing. But for me, I like to keep stuff private.''
The rookie, who is expected to start at quarterback for the Titans this season, said he plans to use the break before training camp to focus on little else beside football.
"(I) just (need to) eliminate distractions,'' Mariota said. "These next six weeks are important. You've got to be able to continue to prepare, continue to build the mental preparation and when training camp comes around be physically ready to go.''
So while Titans' fans might be disappointed Mariota won't be Tweeting what he's up to over the next six weeks, trust him. He's working.
