Ed Reed's son is a Pats fan, and wasn't happy about his dad joining Bills

When your dad plays in the NFL, one would think that you'd root for the team he plays for. That's not always the case, though. Future Hall of Famer Ed Reed and his son proved that.

Reed joined the Buffalo Bills a few weeks ago as an assistant defensive backs coach after playing 12 seasons in the league as a safety -- 11 with the Baltimore Ravens. Yet, despite Reed facing the Ravens' postseason rival, the New England Patriots, four times since 2009, his son isn't a Baltimore fan. Instead, he's a Patriots fan.

Reed was on Showtime's "Inside the NFL" on Tuesday night discussing what impact that had on his decision to join the Bills' coaching staff. Spoiler alert: His son wasn't happy about it.

Via ESPN:

"My son, he wasn't for it at first. He's actually a Patriots fan," Reed said. "So I was like, 'Coach Rex Ryan, we got to sell my son a little bit more, man. You got to get him some gear.' And he was like, 'He can get whatever he wants.'"

So, clearly it took some convincing on Rex Ryan's part. Saying "he can get whatever he wants" probably sealed the deal for Reed's son.

But how exactly did he become a Patriots fan? That's a mystery, but maybe it's because of the fact that Bill Belichick holds Reed in such high regard. Belichick has praised Reed fairly often in the past, going as far as to say "he’s the best weak safety I’ve seen since I’ve been in the National Football League in my career."

That could have been enough to make Reed's son a Patriots fan, but who knows.
