Giants reportedly will be fined for illegal use of walkie-talkies vs. Cowboys
The New York Giants have found themselves at the center of a couple of controversies the past two weeks. First, they reportedly told the NFL that the Pittsburgh Steelers had deflated footballs, which was later dubbed “much ado about nothing.” One week later, they were on the other side, illegally using walkie-talkies when their headset communication went down.
As a result, the Giants are reportedly expected to be fined for it, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. New York isn’t expected to lose a draft pick, though.
After the Giants’ headset communication went down, head coach Ben McAdoo was seen talking into one for a handful of plays, relaying calls to quarterback Eli Manning. The league, which issues the walkie-talkies to teams on game day, forbids coaches from using them because they don't automatically shut off when the play clock reaches 15 seconds like the coach-to-QB headsets do. Generally a backup quarterback will handle any communication through the device, according to NFL.com.
The Cowboys didn’t file a formal complaint to the league as it had no impact on the game, but the Giants will reportedly still pay for breaking the rules.
