Giants' Mike Sullivan has high praise for Eli Manning
New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning is having arguably the best start to a regular season in his career, with 2,700 yards passing, 21 touchdowns and just six interceptions through 10 games. Since offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo installed his new offensive system, Manning has 51 touchdowns and just 20 interceptions. According to quarterbacks coach Mike Sullivan, Manning is more comfortable in year two.
"I think he's very focused on trying to improve everyone around him," Sullivan said to Giants reporters, per Giants 101. "And he's an excellent communicator even back from when I was a receivers coach in the different system, he was very active in giving feedback to the receivers and to the backs and tight ends about specific things he's looking for and things to trigger the release of the football and things to anticipate. He's an excellent communicator and he gives them some excellent feedback, it helps them to improve. And of course, they know he's the guy who's getting them the ball, so it probably behooves them to listen, so that works out well."
It also helps that according to Sullivan, Manning puts in the extra time and effort to make sure everything within the offense runs smoothly.
"You know, I think he's very comfortable in the system. It's the second year in it and with the receivers and with the scheme and so forth, he's healthy and he's still the same tireless worker, the same guy that prepares thoroughly and meticulously and very, very competitive. I think it's just a combination of all of his hard work paying off and being able to be very comfortable and king of anticipating things a little bit faster and an awareness of what to expect from the defense and what to expect from everyone on the offense," Sullivan added. "I think he's very, very comfortable."
Manning has led the Giants to a 5-5 record in 2015 despite several record-breaking bad stretches from his defense and injuries to his left tackle and slot wide receiver. No matter what situation arises around him, Manning has risen to the occasion.
