Giants, WR Brandon Marshall agree to two-year deal

The first day of the NFL's legal free-agent tampering period was absent of big moves, but that changed early Wednesday. According to Newsday, the New York Giants have agreed to a two-year, $12 million deal with wide receiver Brandon Marshall.

Marshall, 32, was released by the New York Jets last week as they purged their roster of pricey veterans. Last season, he had 59 receptions for 788 yards and three touchdowns, a far cry from his 2015 production.

Just two years ago, he had 109 catches for 1,502 yards and 14 touchdowns, proving to be a dominant receiver despite being on the wrong side of 30. The six-time Pro Bowl selection will team with Odell Beckham Jr. and Sterling Shepard, giving the Giants arguably the best receiving corps in the NFL.

It was a difficult 2016 season for Marshall, who endured multiple changes at quarterback on an offense that lacked explosiveness. He'll be 33 years old later this month, but he can still be a very productive receiver in the NFL -- especially on a team with terrific depth at the position.

Marshall's biggest impact will come in the red zone, where he's been a machine throughout his career. Beckham and Shepard are smaller receivers who thrive on yards after the catch, but Marshall has the ability to go up and box out defenders in the end zone.

If the Giants can find a running back to complement their dynamic passing attack, they could very well be the favorites in the NFC East.
