Garafolo: Frank Reich named Eagles' offensive coordinator

The Philadelphia Eagles named Frank Reich as offensive coordinator and former Browns OC John DeFilippo as quarterbacks coach, FOX Sports insider Mike Garafolo reports.

Reich, who played quarterback for 13 seasons in the NFL, served as offensive coordinator of the Chargers the past two seasons while DeFilippo held the same job with the Browns last year. Both join the staff of Doug Pederson, the former OC of the Chiefs who was introduced as the Eagles' new head coach on Tuesday. Pederson also played QB in the NFL.

Reich's Chargers ranked ninth in offense last season, up from 18th a year before, while the Eagles ranked 12th, DeFilippo's Browns ranked 25th and Pederson's Chiefs ranked 27th.

The Chiefs' offense didn't rank higher than 21st in total yards in any of Pederson's three seasons as OC, but overall it was first in the NFL in rushing touchdowns (54), third in yards per carry (4.6) and seventh in total yards rushing (6,018).

Pederson also is credited with developing quarterback Alex Smith, a former No. 1 overall pick by San Francisco. Smith had three consecutive 3,000-yard seasons, threw the second-fewest interceptions among quarterbacks with more than 1,000 attempts (20) and ranked fourth among all quarterbacks with 1,183 yards rushing.
