Pereira: Rams should've been flagged for low hit on Roethlisberger
The Pittsburgh Steelers could be without their franchise quarterback for a while.
Ben Roethlisberger sustained a significant left knee injury in Sunday's game against the St. Louis Rams. Roethlisberger was carted off and the team announced that he wouldn't return.
Roethlisberger will undergo an MRI on Sunday night and the team is hopeful it's not an ACL injury, per FOX Sports 1 NFL insider Mike Garafolo.
Roethlisberger fell victim to a low hit from Rams safety Mark Barron, but the play wasn't flagged.
FOX Sports rules analyst Mike Pereira believes Barron should've been flagged for unnecessary roughness because Roethlisberger was in a passing posture when he was hit.
Pereira points out in the NFL rulebook that a defender can't initiate a lunge and forcibly hit in the knee area or below even if he is being contacted by another defender.
