RG3: Demotion 'was Coach's decision. I'm here to help this team win'
His comments were brief and apparently hurried, but Robert Griffin III spoke to the media on Thanksgiving Day for the first time since the announcement this week that the Washington Redskins were benching him in favor of quarterback Colt McCoy.
In a 35-second Q&A reported by Comcast Sportsnet and The Washington Times that took place as Griffin was walking from the Redskins' practice bubble to the team's primary facility at Redskins Park, the beleaguered quarterback offered a few short responses regarding his demotion.
"It was Coach's decision," Comcast Sportsnet reports Griffin as saying. "I'm here to help this team win."
The Redskins' change at quarterback was initially reported Tuesday by media outlets. Redskins coach Jay Gruden confirmed the decision Wednesday.
When asked during the brief interview about his disappointment level, Comcast Sportsnet says Griffin pretty much just repeated his previous response. And when asked whether the demotion could be a souce of motivation, the QB reportedly said: "Be ready to play. I'm here to help the team win any way I can."
