Robert Kraft told one owner his team would have beaten the Patriots in Super Bowl LI
The New York Giants beat the New England Patriots twice in the Super Bowl, both overcoming the underdog label. Had the two met in this year’s big game, the result would have been the same.
At least, that’s what Patriots owner Robert Kraft believes. He told Giants co-owner Steve Tisch exactly that, saying New York would have beaten his team in the Super Bowl had they made it.
"I could not have been happier,” Tisch said, referring to the Giants’ season. "But would I have liked to have gone deeper in the playoffs? Of course. Would I have liked to have ended up in Houston? Absolutely. Especially because Bob Kraft, after the Super Bowl, told me, 'You would've beat us.' That made me feel good. That was a nice compliment."
The Falcons nearly beat the Patriots, and probably should have, but to say the Giants would have sealed the deal is bold. New York was run out of the building by the Packers, who were dropped by the Falcons in the NFC title game. By that comparison, the Giants would have lost by even more than the Falcons did.
Of course, that wouldn’t stop Tisch from agreeing with Kraft’s declaration.
"Bob and I are very close," Tisch said. "When I heard that, I agree with him."
