Jameis Winston says he looks up to, models his style off Cam Newton

For Jameis Winston and Cam Newton, these are two quarterbacks who have been through similar things on their road to the NFL. Both have won the Heisman, both were the No. 1 overall pick and now one has become the face of the franchise, while the other is hoping to get there one day soon.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Carolina Panthers are both happy with their two young signal callers, but Newton obviously has quite a bit more NFL experience than Winston does. Fortunately, Winston has apparently been able to pick Newton's brain a bit, according to Joe Kania of Buccaneers.com.

“I’ve talked to Cam numerous times,” Winston told Buccaneers.com. “He’s just a great person for me to look up to and kind of model my style off (of). What we've been through, we’ve basically been through the same things – the Heisman, then going to the league so he’s definitely a great person to try to seek for things to do to better myself.”

“What I learned from most of the guys that mentor me,” Winston said. “Just be yourself. We’re blessed to play this great game of football. One thing – he loves football. He exaggerates how blessed he is to be playing and that’s what I do. He brings energy, he’s a very enthusiastic person. (He said to) just bring energy to the field and be yourself.”

The energy that Winston speaks of is obvious in both players. They both absolutely love playing football and thrive off the energy of the players and fans around them. Watching Winston and Newton face off for the first time on Sunday should be the first of many great matchups between these two.
