The Texans have finally benched Brock Osweiler

The Houston Texans signed quarterback Brock Osweiler for four years and $72 million last offseason, but they decided Sunday that it was time for a change.

After falling behind the 2-11 Jacksonville Jaguars 13-0, Texans coach Bill O’Brien replaced Osweiler with backup Tom Savage.

The Texans entered Sunday tied for first place in the AFC South with a 7-6 record, but Osweiler has been more of a hindrance than a help all season. He came into the game with a 31st-ranked QB rating of 73.4 and had thrown as many interceptions (14) as touchdown passes.

After he added two more picks in a 6-for-11 start Sunday, O’Brien decided to give Savage a chance. Before Sunday, the Texans’ 2014 fourth-round pick hadn’t gotten regular-season action since 2014, when he completed 10 of 19 passes in two games.
