Griezmann is first La Liga Best Player winner other than Messi or Ronaldo
Atletico Madrid attacker Antoine Griezmann has been named La Liga's best player for the 2015/16 season, making him the first person outside the Ronaldo/Messi duopoly to ever win the award.
Held annually since the 2008/09, La Liga Awards are the first official awards in the history of the Spanish competition. Lionel Messi has won six out of the previous seven awards, with the lone outlier picked up by none other than arch-nemesis Ronaldo.
Antoine Griezmann's stellar season for Atletico last year sees him pick up the award for the first time ever. His 22 goals and five assists helped Atleti to a third-place finish, just three points off Barcelona in the top spot.
