Neymar says he won't be Brazil captain anymore

Neymar will no longer be Brazil's captain. The superstar won the gold medal for his country at the Rio Olympics on Saturday and, after the match, said he would be giving up the captaincy.

"Today I have become a champion, and I give up the captain's armband," Neymar told SporTV.

"It was an honor to be captain, but from today I stop being captain. I will send a message to [Brazil manager] Tite that, from now, he can look for another captain."

The Olympics are an Under-23 tournament with three over-age selections. Neymar served as the captain for Brazil at The Games, as he does for the senior team, but made it clear that he would be giving up the armband for the senior team, not just the Olympic team.

Neymar was named Brazil captain in September of 2014 when Thiago Silva was out injured. Then-manager Dunga decided that the move would be permanent and Neymar would wear the armband even when Silva returned. But after nearly two years as captain, Neymar has decided to give up the position.

It's not exactly clear why Neymar has decided he no longer wants the armband. Similarly, there's no telling who will be Brazil's next captain. But it's clear that Neymar doesn't want the job anymore.
