Coast-to-coast journey pays off for West Virginia's Skyler Howard

Published Sep. 24, 2015 8:30 p.m. ET

It's been a wild ride for West Virginia's Skyler Howard.

Two games into the 2015 season, Howard is playing as well as any quarterback in the Big 12. And that's saying something, considering the Big 12 has elite QBs such as Patrick Mahomes, Trevone Boykin and Baker Mayfield.

But it didn't always seem like it would end this way for Howard, who went to high school in Texas and went to community college before finally landing in Morgantown. Some thought he'd never be a quarterback.

“I got moved to running back a little bit then decided maybe this isn’t going to work out,” Howard said. “I want to play quarterback somewhere.”
