West Virginia's Dana Holgorsen: FBS shouldn't play FCS

West Virginia head football coach Dana Holgorsen has some controversial things to say about the first few weeks of the college football schedule on Wednesday. Holgorsen, whose team won 44-0 in its season opener against Georgia Southern, said he believes FBS schools should not play FCS schools.

“I know these matchups are huge paydays for these little schools, but these games count as wins for the FBS schools,” Holgorsen said.

The Mountaineers square off with Liberty, an FCS school, in Week 2 on Saturday.

In 2016, West Virginia plays Youngstown State, an FCS school, and that's the team's last FCS opponent for the foreseeable future. Holgorsen is quick to point out, however, that the FCS games were scheduled before he arrived in 2011.

“We are one of the only teams in the country that are scheduling two Power 5 schools in the future,” Holgorsen said. “If you look at our future schedules, we are scheduling them. I wish that everybody else would do the same thing.”
