VAL D'ISERE, France (AP) Lindsey Vonn posted the fastest time in a World Cup downhill training run ahead of Swiss skier Lara Gut at the French Alpine resort of Val d'Isere on Thursday.

Vonn, third fastest in Wednesday's training, had to wait several minutes before starting her run after seeing fellow American Stacey Cook crash moments before.

Cook's crash was spectacular, sending her flying into the safety netting, but she was unharmed and skied back down unattended.

Powering down the Oreiller Killy course in 1 minute, 44.32 seconds - Vonn was .32 ahead of Gut and .89 clear of Tina Weirather of Liechtenstein.

Vonn gained considerable speed on the bottom section, easing up before crossing the line.

There is a World Cup super-combined on Friday followed by a downhill on Saturday.
