Badgers could be without Clement again versus Troy

MADISON -- Wisconsin running back Corey Clement missed practice Tuesday and is questionable for Saturday's game against Troy.

Clement hurt his groin before the opener against Alabama and managed just 16 yards on eight carries during the 35-17 loss to the Crimson Tide. He rested during Wisconsin's 58-0 victory over Miami (Ohio) last weekend.

"Who knows, maybe this week or the Big Ten opener, hopefully I'll be 100 percent for whatever game I'm going to," Clement said.

Clement thought he would be able to play in the home opener against the RedHawks, but said he was "too optimistic."

"I actually got a chance to jog out there and I was like, `Nah, I'm not ready,' so it was a good thing the coaching staff and I made the right decision holding out," he said. "It gave me more time to heal up and who knows, this week is still up in the air as well."

The running game for No. 24 Wisconsin struggled early on, and then picked it up in the second half.

Offensive coordinator Joe Rudolph said that goes along with an offensive line that is "a work in progress."

"We talked as a group that we have to keep building each week and keep growing each week," said Rudolph, who was able to work redshirt freshman Micah Kapoi into the mix on the right side of the line in the win.

Rudolph said tackle Beau Benzschawel and guard Ray Ball are still sidelined and not expected to play against Troy. But the starting line that includes center Dan Voltz, guards Michael Deiter and Walker Williams and tackles Tyler Marz and Hayden Biegel has started to gel.

"I'll continue to push them hard in practice and let those guys continue to compete," Rudolph said.
