Hornacek to experiment during Suns preseason

Published Oct. 7, 2015 4:13 p.m. ET

In an effort to promote rest and decrease wear on tear on players, the NBA cut down on the number of preseason games this year. The Suns will play just six, -- starting tonight against the Kings at Talking Stick Resort Arena -- compared to the eight they played before the 2014-15 season.

Coach Jeff Hornacek said it is more than enough of an opportunity to mix and match lineups, especially early on. He said it's unlikely any player, starter or not, logs more than 24 minutes against Sacramento.

"You start to get an idea through practices of guys that work well together," Hornacek told Suns.com. "Maybe things change as the season goes on, but I think six games should be enough to do some experimenting and then jump into it."

"He just says approach it like it's a season," added rookie Devin Booker. "Go in there with the same mentality that we're trying to get that playoff spot. We know that Sacramento is one of those teams that's trying to get that same spot, so we're going to play hard."
