Mom plays it cool during interview as son serves up HR in MLB debut
Reds right-handed starter Michael Lorenzen was on the mound making his major-league debut against the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday afternoon in Cincinnati.
His mother Cheryl was in the stands.
In the top of the second inning, Reds broadcaster Jim Day was seated next to the proud mom doing an in-game interview. As Day was asking her how proud she was to see her son on the mound and living his dream, Adam Lind of the Brewers blasted a solo home run to right-center field.
Without missing a beat, Day said, "That's welcome to the big leagues, mom."
Cheryl Lorenzen laughed the moment off. Just like a pro. (Note: The below tweet was posted on Tuesday.)

The 23-year-old Lorenzen, a first-round pick (38th overall) of the Reds in the 2013 draft, served up two more solo homers before his afternoon was done, but he didn't pitch terrible in the Reds' 8-3 defeat. He left the game with the Reds trailing 3-2 after five innings, yielding eight hits and a walk with five strikeouts. He did take the loss, however.
But Lorenzen, who was a pretty good hitter at Cal State Fullerton, also collected his first major-league hit, a single in the second inning.
