Packers sign free agent DL Quinton Dial

The famously free agency-averse Green Bay Packers are supplementing their defense with another signing.

The Packers signed veteran defensive lineman Quinton Dial on Tuesday, one day after signing outside linebacker and former teammate Ahmad Brooks. Green Bay also signed free-agent tight ends Martellus Bennett and Lance Kendricks this past offseason.

The Packers released fellow defensive lineman Christian Ringo to make room for Dial, who had been released on Saturday by the San Francisco 49ers.

Dial, a fifth-round pick in 2013 by San Francisco out of Alabama, started 11 games for the 49ers last season, totaling 36 tackles. In 2015, Dial started 15 games and had a career-high 59 tackles with 2.5 sacks.

Ringo was a sixth-round pick by the Packers in 2015. He spent his rookie season on the team's practice squad. He played in eight games last season, recording two tackles and a forced fumble.
