Braun Strowman vs. Roman Reigns: Pros and Cons of Potential WWE Feud

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 8:21 p.m. ET

Braun Strowman closed out Monday night Raw after taking out Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins. What are the positives and negatives of a potential showdown between Reigns and Strowman?

If anybody made a strong statement during this week’s Raw it is Braun Strowman. The former black sheep of the Wyatt family would make multiple appearances during the show. He would then proceed to beat up and demolish anyone and anything in his way. This came as a result of Sami Zayn getting the better of Strowman at Roadblock the other night.

Strowman’s attacks would reach an exclamation point when he interfered in the night’s main event. He would proceed to beat-up the United States champion Roman Reigns and his tag team partner Seth Rollins. While this may not be a big news, the incident could, however, act as a starting point for a mini feud between these two.

There have been rumors of a potential WrestleMania showdown between these two powerhouses. While that could still remain as a rumor, it wouldn’t hurt to check out the pros and cons of a potential feud. For one, Roman Reigns has been struggling to get over with the fans. Strowman, on the other hand, is massively over as WWE’s next monster heel. He is still developing by leaps and bounds but is an entertaining part of Raw every week. Perhaps a lengthy program with him could rejuvenate Reigns’ character.

Pros of a Reigns vs. Strowman Feud

Reigns is the current United States champion. He is also the number one contender for the Universal title. While there is nothing inherently wrong with it, Reigns’ US title reigns has been mediocre, to say the least. For one, he has not defended the title that much after getting past Rusev. Secondly, the US title holder eyeing the Universal title diminishes the value of the secondary title.

To make it worse, Reigns has not even mentioned the US title ever since entering into the program with Kevin Owens. The fact of the matter is Roman Reigns need to drop the US title if he is indeed focused on the Universal title. At the very least, make his match with KO a champion vs champion match with the US title on the line as well.

If Roman Reigns has to drop the US title, a feud with Braun Strowman could be the way to do it. As already established, Strowman is a monster heel and would have no problem coming across a variety of challengers. The fact that he is not in the main event picture at the moment would give him plenty of time to defend and showcase the mid-card title. Above everything else, both these guys have been built up as unstoppable forces. However, Strowman was booked much more organically than Reigns. He could prove to be ideal competition for Reigns.

Cons of a Potential Feud

The biggest concern as far as this feud goes would be Strowman’s position at the end of all this. A program with Reigns could either cement him as Raw’s ultimate monster heel. Or it could leave him much like Rusev after his feud with John Cena. Braun Strowman is riding on a ton of momentum at the moment.

If Reigns goes over him in typical fashion, all that momentum could very well go down the drain. Strowman winning the US title is a very tempting affair. However, I would rather see him without the title and kicking ass rather than possibly jobbing out to Reigns. The ruthless and methodical beating of Reigns last night was a testament to how far Strowman has developed as a heel.

It would a big waste of talent if Creative is to use the feud to put Reigns over. Creative’s best bet would be to either go on with this feud on the side and have a title match on Raw at some point. If it comes to that, Strowman has to go over and win the US title with or without Kevin Owens’ interference. If that can’t be the case, then Strowman should interfere in the Royal Rumble title match and cost Reigns the win again. From there, creative could easily build towards a WrestleMania match. It would also help Reigns as he would stay away from the main event scene for once and not get booed as much.
