Davis scores 36, FAU edges UAB 88-86 for 12th straight win
BOCA RATON, Fla. (AP) — Sophomore Johnell Davis came off the bench to score 36 points — doubling his career high — and Florida Atlantic held off UAB 88-86 on Thursday night to run its win streak to 12 while grabbing the top spot in Conference USA.
Davis, who scored 18 points in each half, made 11 of 17 shots with four 3-pointers for the Owls (13-1, 3-0). Bryan Greenlee scored 12 points, while reserve Alijah Martin grabbed 10 rebounds to go with six points.
Jordan Walker, who leads the nation with a 25.2 scoring average, finished with 21 points for the Blazers (12-3, 3-1), who saw a five-game win streak end. Eric Gaines and reserve Javian Davis added 15 points apiece.
Walker was held to a 3-pointer and two free throws in the first half, but Ledarrius Brewer and Davis came off the bench to score nine apiece to help UAB tie the Owls at 41 at halftime.
