Drew Pember scores 29 as UNC Asheville beats Winthrop 82-77

ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) — Drew Pember scored 29 points as UNC Asheville knocked off Winthrop 82-77 on Thursday night.

The loss knocked the Eagles out of a share of first place in the Big South Conference.

Pember added 13 rebounds for the Bulldogs (12-8, 4-1). Josh Banks was 4 of 7 shooting, including 2 for 3 from 3-point range, and went 4 for 5 from the line to add 14 points. Caleb Burgess had 12 points and was 5 of 6 shooting and 0 of 4 from the free throw line.

Kelton Talford led the Eagles (13-7, 4-1) in scoring, finishing with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Winthrop also got 20 points and four assists from Nick Johnson. KJ Doucet also recorded nine points and four steals. The Eagles ended a five-game winning streak with the loss.

UNC Asheville's next game is Wednesday against Radford at home. Winthrop visits Gardner-Webb on Saturday.
