Drew Thelwell dishes out program-record 19 assists as Morehead State beats Alice Lloyd 101-39
MOREHEAD, Ky. (AP) — Riley Minix had 20 points and 13 rebounds for one of Morehead State’s three double-doubles, Drew Thelwell dished out a program-record 19 assists and the Eagles beat Alice Lloyd 101-39 on Thursday.
Thelwell topped the single-game assist record held by Kareem Storey (2013-14) and Jeff Fultz (1983-84). Thelwell came within one of tying the Ohio Valley Conference record, set by Middle Tennessee's James Johnson in 1985-86.
Morehead State scored the opening 12 points and led 47-22 at the break after making nine 3-pointers. The Eagles finished 16 of 47 from 3-point range, with six from Kalil Thomas, to reach double-digit 3-pointers for the fifth straight game.
Dieonte Miles and Eddie Ricks III also secured double-doubles for the Eagles (9-4), who had a 73-32 edge on the glass. Miles had 13 points and 12 rebounds, Eddie Ricks III added 10 points and 11 rebounds, and Minix secured his sixth double-double of the season. Thomas and Jordan Lathon, who was coming off a career-best 30 points at Indiana, each scored 18 points.
The Eagles were led in scoring by Ben Soumahoro, who finished with 12 points and six rebounds.
Morehead State visits Southeast Missouri State to begin OVC play on Dec. 31.
