Hyatt scores 17, Omoruyi has double-double and Rutgers rallies late to beat Nebraska 87-82 in OT
PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) — Aundre Hyatt scored 17 points, Clifford Omoruyi had a double-double and Rutgers rallied from a 12-point deficit in the second half to beat Nebraska 87-82 in overtime on Wednesday night.
Omoruyi made back-to-back dunks during a 15-4 run that pulled Rutgers to 67-66 with 1:56 to play in regulation. Hyatt’s free throw tied it 69-all with 19 seconds to go before each team committed turnovers to force overtime.
Rutgers outscored Nebraska 18-13 in the extra period and made the last four points from the free-throw line. Hyatt scored five points in overtime that included a 3-pointer.
Mawot Mag added 16 points for Rutgers (10-7, 2-4 Big Ten) for his fifth consecutive game in double figures. Derek Simpson chipped in 14 points and Austin Williams had 11. Omoruyi finished with 14 points and 15 rebounds.
Brice Williams scored 22 points to lead Nebraska (13-5, 3-4). Keisei Tominaga added 16 points and C.J. Wilcher had 12.
Williams scored seven points and Josiah Allick chipped in all five of his during Nebraska's 16-6 run for a 57-47 lead with 12:32 to play. Wilcher's 3-pointer stretched the advantage to 63-51 with 9:39 remaining, but it was the Cornhuskers' last field goal of the second half.
The teams combined for 24 3-pointers and 55-of-144 (38% each) shooting overall. Nebraska made 19 of 24 free throws compared to Rutgers' 16-of-30 shooting from the line, but Rutgers had a 56-42 rebounding advantage.
Nebraska, which has played three of its last four games on the road, hosts Northwestern on Saturday.
Rutgers plays at No. 14 Illinois on Sunday.
